About the Recipe

Rolling up deli cuts like ham is a great idea for a school lunchbox- in this way, they’re easy to eat, and you can pack them bento-style with other fresh ingredients. It’s just a smorgasbord of healthy foods kids love.

No need to worry about the tortilla going soggy either; these are made with only two ingredients and stay intact. You can also roll them up with sliced cheese, which makes a yummy and protein-rich variation.

Of course, these can be recreated with deli turkey, roast beef, or prosciutto- but ham is a popular option and something that’s always in the fridge.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces sliced deli ham

  • 1 8-inch flour tortilla

  • 5-6 fresh strawberries, quartered

  • 1 small apple, sliced

  • ½ cup carrot chips

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice the fruit.

  2. Place the ham onto the tortilla and roll it up before slicing it into 1-inch rounds.

  3. Pack the roll-ups into a bento box container. Fill the remaining compartments with the fruit and veggies.

  4. Close the lid and place the box in a lunch bag with an ice pack.

Notes:

Feel free to add a hummus or guac dip for the vegetables and some peanut butter for the apples.
